Ceremonial Mask

Ritual mask used during propitiatory ceremonies before sowing the rice to ward off malevolent influence and for asking the benediction of the rice plants, in order to get a rich harvest and assure the community’s prosperity. The mask is characterized by a mouth shaped in the form of mythical aso’, the «dog-dragon» protector. It comes from the Mahakam River area.
