Ceremonial Mask. Luha Tingang

Ceremonial mask used in dances accompanying the sarcophagus of the deceased to the burial area, in order to protect his immortal soul from malevolent spirits. The big mask is characterised by a simian face with its mouth terminating in a hornbill, the sacred bird related to the heavenly world. The face is entwined by a row of flat undulating shoots and surmounted by a crown with zoomorphic figures oriented towards the height, most probably lizards denoted by a vertical symmetry.
