Stopper to Bamboo Container

Wooden stopper for closing a bamboo container which was used to store important objects like documents or amulets. The carved part depicts a monkey sitting in squatting position. The animal features an oval, heart-shaped face. Its massive body is carved in the round and the joints are sharply cut to emphasis dynamics. The incrustations are due to the practice of sprinkling offers on such amulet figures.
